Xiaomi 17 Pro owners are getting a new live weather wallpaper for the phone’s rear display, according to an announcement posted this afternoon by Xiaomi’s official smartphone account. The new wallpaper automatically changes its animated background based on current weather conditions, so users can check the weather at a glance without needing to open the main screen.
Xiaomi also introduced another rear display feature earlier in the day: a digital wooden fish mode. The company says it includes eight different wooden fish styles, each with its own sound effect, and it also lets users add their own custom calming text.
Beyond those two additions, Xiaomi says the rear display on the 17 Pro lineup already supports several other utility and personalization tools. Those include a New Year Flag template for saving 2026 goals, a privacy mode that can quickly disable microphone and camera permissions from the rear screen, and a conversation translation feature that shows translated text on the back while Chinese is entered on the main display.
The company adds that the broader rear display experience also supports digital pets, screenshot assistance when the phone is inside a case, and saving AI-generated wallpapers directly to the photo album. In other words, Xiaomi is continuing to position the rear display as something more useful than a decorative secondary screen.
Xiaomi Group partner and president Lu Weibing has previously said the Xiaomi 17 series is the best-selling standard-number lineup in the company’s history, with the Pro models standing out in particular. This new rear display rollout appears to be part of Xiaomi’s effort to keep building on that momentum through software features, not just hardware upgrades.
