Xiaomi has reportedly put its Xiaomi clamshell foldable product line on hold, according to comments shared by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station while replying to users online. If that information is accurate, it would mark a pause in Xiaomi’s smaller foldable strategy even though the company only launched the current MIX Flip 2 in June 2025, with pricing that started at 5,999 yuan.
The report doesn’t say the company is stepping away from foldables altogether. Instead, it suggests Xiaomi may be shifting priorities inside the category. Earlier rumors had already pointed to a possible return of Xiaomi’s book-style foldable line in the near future, with a new model expected in the fourth quarter of this year. That device had previously been linked to the name MIX Fold 5, although more recent talk has suggested it could instead arrive as the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

That possible roadmap would fit with Xiaomi’s recent release history. The current large-format foldable, the MIX Fold 4, debuted in July 2024 with a starting price of 8,999 yuan. Since then, the lineup has gone about a year without an update, leaving room for speculation about what comes next and how Xiaomi wants to position its foldable portfolio.
Previous leaks have also claimed that the upcoming large foldable carries the internal codename “lhasa” and may use Xiaomi’s Xuanjie O3 chip. Nothing official has been announced yet, so the current picture is still based on reports and tipster commentary rather than confirmed product plans.
For now, the key takeaway is that Xiaomi may be dialing back its small foldable effort while keeping the door open for a larger foldable return later in 2026. If that happens, the company’s next move in foldables could be less about expanding every form factor and more about focusing on the models it sees as the better long-term fit.
