Vivo X Fold6 Adds a Desktop-Style Computer Mode for Big Screens

vivo X Fold6 is getting a new desktop-style computer mode, according to vivo OS product director Bucky, who shared fresh details about the foldable phone. The idea is not just basic screen mirroring. Vivo is positioning the mode as a way to turn the phone into a portable workstation when a larger display is available.

Once the phone is connected to a big screen, it can switch into a desktop interface that feels closer to a PC than a standard Android phone layout. Apps can open in windows, and documents, spreadsheets, and presentations can be handled on the larger display instead of being squeezed into the phone screen.

The phone itself can also work as a touchpad. Users can tap, swipe, and drag directly from the handset, which should make the setup more practical when a separate mouse is not nearby. If a mouse and keyboard are connected, the overall interaction becomes even more like using a lightweight computer.

The feature fits the broader direction of book-style foldables, where the device is expected to handle more serious productivity work than a regular slab phone. For U.S. readers, the closest comparison is Samsung DeX or Motorola Ready For, though vivo is presenting this as a fresh workflow built around the vivo X Fold6.

Vivo has also confirmed that the vivo X Fold6 will use the Blue Crystal x Dimensity 9500 Super Edition. Vivo communications technology product manager Han Boxiao said the Super Edition was not a simple adaptation of an existing chip, but the result of deep joint development with MediaTek that began two years earlier.

According to Han, the customized SoC was developed specifically for large-screen foldable phones. Vivo claims the NPU peak performance is up 111% compared with the previous generation, while power consumption has been optimized by another 56%. In plain terms, the company says AI computing power has roughly doubled while efficiency has improved substantially.

Real-world images of the vivo X Fold6 have already appeared online. The phone uses a circular rear camera module, with Zeiss branding placed in the center of the camera area. Compared with the previous generation, the overall body design looks more rounded.

Vivo has announced that the vivo X Fold6 will launch in June. The combination of a big-screen desktop mode and a foldable-specific MediaTek chipset suggests the company wants this model to feel less like a niche folding phone and more like a compact work device that can move between phone, tablet, and desktop-style use.
